Searching for a unique, personalized gift? Look no further! A photo mosaic is a great way to make use of all of those photos on your phone that hardly ever get looked at. Whether it’s a glossy print to hang in your home, or an inspiring video to play at the next company event, a photo mosaic is the perfect way to transform your photos into something unforgettable.
Mother’s Day is coming up, and what better way to celebrate mom than to gather all of her favorite memories and put them in one place for her look back on. I couldn’t decide which medium to go with (print, video, interactive), so I went ahead and created all three.
There are several applications and online photo mosaic-making tools, but the one I ultimately ended up using was The Online Mosaic Tool. I found it easy to use, and it also allowed me to create multiple mosaics for free before making a final purchase which is awesome. Here are the steps I took in order to get to the final product(s):
- First, I created my own sort of Mother’s Day “greeting card” that I could use as the main image for my mosaic. I used Photoshop for this, but you can easily do a quick Google search for a free application or website where you can create your own image.
- I uploaded my Mother’s Day image, along with all of the smaller photos and let the mosaic software do it’s thing. Here’s the mosaic I ended up with:

3. Once the zoomable mosaic was created, I had the option to turn it into a video animation. I love this idea because it really brings the photos to life, and can create an entirely different vibe than the static image does. I chose an inspiring soundtrack to bring everything together.
